...of three hypostaces
Phagrianika, Xanthianika and Kato Hora are the 3 built up areas that Milia consists of. A village built between ravines. Traditionally decorated houses stand next to some exceptional churches.
Metamorfosi church in particular stands out, with its grandiose campanile.
The monastery of Panagia Giatrisa looks over Milia as it is built on a narrow passage between mountains where Christians from all over Greece gather at the annual fair.
It is the birthplace of the extraordinary poet and teacher Nikita Niphaki or Niphakou.
His work shed light on the history, geography and folklore of Mani and inspired the Greeks to rebel against tyranny.
Kostantis Kolokotronis, his family and his 10 year old son Theodoros, found refuge in Milia after the “Orlofika”. Kostantis died during the battle at Mikri Kastania. He was burried in Garbelia.
